What is Medicare?

Original Medicare consists of two parts, Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance). Original Medicare is available for all US citizens who are:
  • Turning age 65
  • Deemed disabled by the Social Security Administration for 24 months
  • Retiring and losing employer or group coverage after the age of 65
  • Patients of a Dialysis Center due to end-stage renal disease
  • Meet other specific qualifications

What is the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period?​

The Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, also known as the Annual Election Period, or AEP, is the time when you are able to make changes to your Medicare plan. Annual Enrollment is every year from October 15 - December 7.

​​During the Annual Enrollment Period, you can make changes to your Medicare plan. Here are some examples of what you can change:
  • Enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan from Original Medicare
  • Change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another
  • Return to Original Medicare
  • Enroll in a Part D prescription drug plan
  • Change your Part D prescription drug plan to another
  • Change your Medicare Supplement Plan
  • Move from a Medicare Supplement Plan and to enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan


Sometimes there's reasons for you wanting to change your Medicare plan during the Annual Enrollment Period, here are some of the most common we come across:
  • You looked at the plan changes coming to your plan, and you don't like it
  • Your monthly plan premium has gone up
  • Your provider is no longer in network, or has moved plans
  • The plan no longer will cover one of your important medications
  • You want to move from a Medicare Supplement to a Medicare Advantage Plan; or vice versa
