Everyday we speak to new and existing clients about questions and concerns they may have when choosing a new Medicare insurance policy. From first hand experience, let us tell you, there is no one size fits all insurance policy that will satisfy every Medicare beneficiary in Southern Nevada.

Before Deciding on a Medicare Policy, Make Sure You Check Off These Questions:

  1. Are your doctors in network? When considering a new Medicare Plan, make sure that your doctors are in network. Every plan in Southern Nevada contracts with different doctors, so check with you broker to make sure that all your healthcare providers accept the plan you're thinking about.
  2. Will your prescriptions be covered? Every Medicare Advantage Plan and Prescription Drug Plan (Part D) have their own unique formularies that cover prescription drugs differently. Some plans might cover a prescription at a lower cost than another, and some plans my not cover the prescription at all. So check that all your prescriptions will be covered under the plan at a preferred cost to you.
  3. Do you prefer the flexibility to travel with your plan, or are you willing to stay in the service area for care? There are an abundant amount of Medicare Plans in Southern Nevada, ranging from HMO's, PPO's, and Supplemental Insurance. Some plans allow members to travel the country for care, while others require members to acquire their care in the service area of Southern Nevada. When choosing a plan, verify that portability is an important feature. (Note: When you are looking for a portable plan, you will typically be subject to higher copays then a non portable plan.)
  4. Do you have a chronic condition where you need extra care? Keep your conditions in mind when looking for a Medicare Plan. In Southern Nevada there are plans specifically designed for individuals with Diabetes and Heart Conditions, Chronic Lung Conditions, and Kidney Failure. Each plan is designed to treat each condition respectably by providing formularies that have the condition in mind. This means that out-of-pocket costs will be much lower on these plans then a traditional Medicare plan for someone that has a chronic condition.
  5. What reputation does the insurance carrier have? Make sure that the carrier you are thinking about has good reputation and a high rating from Medicare. Check with one of our advisors to see if the carrier will meet your needs.
