Tensions are high and people are stressed out during this Covid-19 outbreak. While there are many generous and selfless agencies working day and night to alleviate some of the stress that comes with  day-to-day operations, there are also many corrupt individuals taking advantage of people desperate for help.

The unfortunate truth is that there already are some groups coming out that are attempting to scam Medicare beneficiaries in giving them personal information. According to the Federal Trade Commission, groups are trying to steal information on individuals and take advantage of the victims venerability.

The Federal Trade Commission set Some Advice for Dealing with Coronavirus Scam Callers, which include:
  • Not responding to texts, emails or calls in regards to stimulus checks
  • Ignoring offer for vaccinations from online sources
  • Responding to ads for Cover-19 test kits
  • Not engaging with robocalls
  • Tips on dealing with emails claiming to from the CDC or WHO
  • Finding a reputable source when it comes to donations
Much more can be found on the Federal Trade Commission's website, which outlines each bullet in better detail.
It's important to keep your information private and out of the hands of thieves
Follow the advise from the Federal Trade Commissions and practice caution when dealing with a source wanting information from you. Stick with sources you trust, and if something feels off about the interaction you're encountering, most likely it is. Don't let these thieves scare you into giving them information, you have the ability to hang-up the call at anytime, you can block the number, you can flag the email. You are in control, just follow the advice from the Federal Trade Commission and use proper judgement.
